PROJECT TIMELINE

SCULPTURE

one week: Cast inner support structure using expandable spray foam. Carve this casting to make it 1 1/2” smaller all around so that when the liquid silicone is poured into the mould, it will leave a solid silicone structure of 1 1/2” thick, the same shape as the mould.

two weeks: Inlay all electronics components (sensors and leds) and cast mould in silicone. Secure cast with supports.

four weeks: Network of conductive ink veins. Finalize and plan changes for the next iteration.

ELECTRONICS

one week: Configure leds using the MAX7219CNG common-cathode LED display driver. This will allow for the use of fewer pins on the arduino, potentially eliminating the need for more arduinos. Connect capacitive sensors (conductive ink network) to leds so that the closer the touch is to the led, the brighter the led is.

two weeks: Connect arduino wirelessly using the yun.

four weeks: Arduino sketch written and finished for the leds and capactive network.

INSTALLATION

one week: Decide on set-up, including darkness/brightness of space, size of space, enclosed? four walls? Decided what the walls are made of, are they reflective or black matte?

two weeks: Begin setting up process for preliminary set-up of space. Think about furnishings and lighting in addition to projection; are there going to be other surfaces projected onto besides the walls?

four weeks: At this point it should be clear what the space will look like, where it will be, what the surfaces of the walls, floors and ceilings will be and what furniture and lighting there will be.

VISUALS

one week: Write an outline for a sketch in processing using generative algorithms driving the incoming sensor data from the pressure sensors. Create mood boards for visuals. Link these outputs to my research question.

two weeks: Test projections in the studio, reflective writing and documentation.

four weeks: Finalize visuals with processing and projectors.

DOCUMENTATION

two weeks: Finalize research question and have it approved by advisors; align working processes with research question.

ongoing: Blog entries; video, photo, inspiration, readings etc. Reflective writing on the work process and outcomes. Thesis scaffold and outline.
